About the treatment

What is Sports & Deep Tissue Massage?

Sports massage uses a range of techniques to work into muscles and soft tissue affected by exercise, training or repetitive strain. Deep tissue massage is slower and firmer, working into the deeper layers of muscle and fascia to release tension that has built up over time.

You do not need to be an athlete. Many people book sports or deep tissue massage for tightness from desk work, driving, lifting children or long days on their feet. The pressure is firm, but it should never be more than you are comfortable with.

At Soma, sports and deep tissue massage are offered by Mo Vadillo, who combines focused work with a calmer, restorative style and adapts each treatment to your body and how you feel on the day.

Questions

Questions about Sports & Deep Tissue Massage

What is the difference between sports and deep tissue massage?
Sports massage is tailored to how you use your body, for example around training or recovery, and mixes several techniques. Deep tissue massage focuses on slow, firm pressure into the deeper layers of muscle. Many sessions combine the two.
Will it hurt?
Deeper work can feel intense at times, but it should not be painful. Tell your practitioner if you would like lighter or firmer pressure at any point.
Should I book before or after an event?
Both are common. A lighter session a few days before and a recovery session a day or two after work well for many people. Your practitioner can advise.
I don't do sport. Is it still for me?
Yes. Plenty of people book for everyday tension from work, stress or posture.
